Tech Transfer celebrates invention

The Michigan League Ballroom was the scene of the 2001 "Celebrate Invention"
reception October 15. The Office of Technology Transfer (Tech Transfer),
formerly the Office of Technology Transfer, hosted the event, designed to
honor researchers from the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint UM campuses.
The keynote address was delivered by Paul Israel, author of "Edison: A Life of Invention," and co-editor of "The Thomas A. Edison Papers" at Rutgers University. In addition to exploring inventions by Edison, Israel discussed 19th-century invention versus 20th-century innovation.
Brief remarks were given by Ken Nisbet, executive director of Tech Transfer, who expressed the "deepest appreciation for the accomplishments" of the inventors. "We're proud of the contributions made to our continuing tradition here at the University," said Nisbet.
Fawwaz Ulaby, vice president for research, said, "The social contract between the University and society-at-large includes several elements, including being dedicated to the education of students and becoming major contributors to the social good in all of its manifestations, from the humanities and the arts, to the sciences and the professions."
Referencing the inventors, Robert Kasdin, executive vice president and chief financial officer, also noted the "very long tradition of excellence here at the UM."
The inventors were honored for their disclosures, issued patents and licenses.
