Arbor Networks Commandeers New Space

A jolly roger pirate flag was hoisted above the Starbucks at Liberty and State in downtown Ann Arbor last week. But pirates had not commandeered the coffee counter. All the activity was taking place two floors above the unsuspecting Starbucks customers, in the offices of Arbor Arbor's newest high-tech company, Arbor Networks.

Founded by University of Michigan Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS), Dr. Farnam Jahanian, and associates Ted Julian and Dr. Rob Malan, Arbor Networks seeks not to perpetuate crime, but to prevent it.

By providing a computer network security service that detects, traces, and blocks availability threats, Arbor Networks's seeks to end Denial of Service (DoS) attacks like those which have temporarily crippled such companies as Yahoo and Microsoft.

With $11 million in initial funding by Battery Ventures and Cisco Systems, it looks as though they will be well-equipped to fight.
