As a New Business Development Specialist, Wayne is a member of the Office of Technology Transfer Business Development Group focusing on the creation of new businesses based on technologies invented and developed at U-M. His primary focus is on the life sciences.
Wayne received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from Purdue University and an MBA degree in financial management from the University of Chicago. In addition, he received a Master of Science degree in Oceanography from the University of Hawaii where he focused on systems analysis of eutrophication processes.
With over 25 years of experience in corporate and entrepreneurial management, he has acquired first-hand knowledge of early stage company development primarily within the life-science industry sector. He was the Founder and CEO of the first marine biotechnology company funded by institutional and corporate venture capital developing pharmaceutical, agrichemical and specialty chemical products from cultured seaweed. In addition, he was President/COO of a Midwest-based biopharmaceutical firm. Most recently, he served as Program Director of the Missouri SBIR/STTR Assistance Program (MoFAST), assisting clients in qualifying for over $20 million in federal research and development grants and the development of strategic, business, marketing and financial plans.
In addition, he has taught technology entrepreneurship courses to selected medical and engineering school faculty and researchers at Washington University in St. Louis. He was also a member and Director of the Missouri Venture Forum, a non-profit organization founded in 1985 to serve as a catalyst to bring together entrepreneurs and investors as well as other business resources.
